As a new member, you’ll submit the following items to us: a .jpg file of your front book cover, book title, book author, ISBN (if any), genre, publisher, retail price, a short description of your book and an active link where customers can purchase your book online. Your link can go to Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, any other online bookseller, publisher or the author’s personal website/blog.
Your book would then be listed on the Book Promotion Network website and be available to other authors who are interested in promoting your book. When they select your book, they receive your book information, cover .jpg and the active link to add to their website.
If you have a personal website for your book, you can promote the books of our members that might be of interest to your readers.
While you are not required to promote the books of other members, why wouldn’t you? When you promote the book of another member, you increase the chance of selling your book. Those surfing the web for another BPN member’s book title or subject matter will have your website come up as an option in their search results. When they click on your website, not only will they find the book they were looking for, they will see your title as well. Thus it creates a win-win situation for both authors.
Aside from the added exposure, what’s in it for me?
When you join BPN you receive points for your participation, which will elevate your status in the network. Books will be listed by a point ranking. The more points you have, the higher your book will rank and the sooner our visitors will see it. You’ll have the opportunity to gain points in many ways, including memberships, refer a friend, bonus contests and cross promotions.
Could you tell me more about the point system?
For each book you promote per month, you’ll get one point. For example, if you promote a book on your website every month for 12 months, 12 points would be accrued. If you promote 10 books for 12 months, that’s 120 points. There is no limit as to how many books you can choose to promote.
Other points:
6 month membership: 20 points
12 month membership: 50 points
6 month membership (2 titles): 45 points
12 month membership (2 titles): 100 points
6 month membership (3 and more titles): 75 points
12 month membership (3 or more titles): 160 points
Refer A Friend (new memberships only): 15 points each
New book promotion: If you select a title from the New to BPN page, you'll get 5 additional points for the first month of promotion. After that, you'll receive the standard 1 point a month credit. *Until January 1, 2008 - all titles are considered new and will receive 5 points each month.
Periodic Bonus Contests: Points may vary. An example contest would be refer a friend during a specific month, the author bringing in the most new memberships would get an additional 50 points on top of the standard friend points.
Can you help me stand out from the crowd?
Absolutely. We offered several ways to help you help yourself.
The three books with the highest ranking each month will be showcased in the Featured Title section of the website. These books receive:
- An enlarged cover image of your book
- A longer description/excerpt section – up to 250 words instead of 50.
- Up to three (3) live links. This could include one link to your personal website/blog, one link to an online bookseller and a third link to an online review or interview you’ve done.
When you add your book to our network, your title will be listed on the next monthly email alerting members that your book is available for promotion. There will also be a page dedicated to the new arrivals, so you’ll get off to a great start. We're also giving our members a little incentive to help you out. If they select your book while it's posted on the New to BPN page, they'll get 5 additional points for the first month.
BPN members can post the latest news about their upcoming book signings, appearances and news. Along with the website posting, our author's news will also be added to the monthly email that announces new titles.
Any bonus points you receive will be credited upon earning the reward. Points for cross promoting books will not be awarded until the book appears on your website. Periodic checks of your hosting website will be performed by BPN no less than once every 30 days. There will be no warning as to when these random checks will occur.
- If the title is accurately listed on your site with the cover photo, complete book information and active, working link for book purchase, your account will be credited 1 point for that month.
- If it is not listed, listed with incorrect/incomplete information, has a broken or inaccurate link, you will not receive credit for that title that month.
- Newly purchased titled should be added to your website as quickly as possible, but you’ll be given at least three (3) business days before we attempt to verify it’s been added to your website. If you need additional time, please let us know at the time of purchase when you expect it to be added.
Aside from the cross promotion, what other efforts will be made to promote my book or BPN?
BPN is not only dedicated to the success of this network, it strives to ensure the success of all of its authors. Not only do we want to attract new authors who will actively partner with you, we want to attract businesses and groups interested in your subject matter and will want to buy and promote your book themselves.
What if I have more than one book I’d like to promote?
Each membership entitles an author to have one book listed on BPN. If you have multiple titles you’d like to add, please sign up as a multi-titled author. You will receive a 50% discount on your second title. Three or more titles gets 75% off. Points awarded to that author will be evenly divided (and rounded up to the next full point) for each title listed.
Do I have to sell other author’s books on my website?
No. You are only promoting the book and providing an active link for your visitors to follow to make the purchase elsewhere. It could be a link to the author’s website or any online book seller. Any agreements you may make with another party to sell their book on your website is private matter and outside the scope of BPN.
How do I get someone’s book information to add to my website?
Browse through the titles listed on BPN. It is recommended you select titles and subject matters that are similar in nature to your book. You are free to choose any title from our network, but if your book is on the subject of mediation and spiritual enlightenment, you may not want to promote a horror novel on your website.
Once you selected your titles, add them to your shopping cart. Each title is only .99 and is yours to promote for as long as you want. Upon completing the check out process, you will receive the following via email within one business day: the cover .jpg, book title, book author, description of 50 words or less, ISBN (if any), retail price and one active purchasing link.
You, or your web designer, will need to insert this information somewhere on your website. You may want to have a section of your website entitled, “Other Books of Interest.” Please ensure that all of the information is correct and the link directs you to the correct website. Otherwise, you will not receive credit for the promotion.
Remember, you will receive one point for every month we are able to verify you are promoting the book and the purchasing link is active. You may discontinue promoting the book at any time, but you will stop earning credits for that title.
What happens if I don’t renew my membership when it expires?
The longer you maintain membership, the more points you can build. Points will remain on your account as long as your membership is active.
Prior to the end of your membership, you’ll receive a renewal notice. If you renew before your termination date, your old points balance will remain intact and new points will accrue with your continued membership. If an author renews after their termination date, they lose any points they had accrued in previous enrollments and they start at the beginning again.
If an author chooses not to renew his/her membership at all, their book(s) will be removed from the BPN website. Any member who has purchased their book for promotion will be notified that your title no longer qualifies for BPN credit. They are free to decide if they would like to continue promoting your book without reward or if they want to remove it from their website.
